Portable Word is a compact tool that allows you to create documents in a modern interface. The program can come in handy when you are looking for a text editor that can handle more than file at a time.
As the name suggests, the application aims to provide you with an interface similar to Microsoft Word. However, do not expect the same features for a program that only has a few hundred kilobytes in size.
The main advantage of the program is the ability to create and edit multiple documents at the same time. The user also has the option to arrange the documents side by side, horizontally or vertically.
Moreover, you can insert the current date, time and a copyright text with one click. The ribbon menu can be customized by selecting which commands you want to display in the Quick Launch bar.
The bubble bar provides access to other tools in order to launch them without accessing the Start Menu or desktop shortcuts. Unfortunately, the package does not include the other Portable Studio apps which makes the launcher useless. Fortunately, you can disable it from the View tab.
Although it automatically underlines and colors all expressions that start with “http://” or “www”, the app does not provide buttons for changing the font color or style. You need to make changes by opening the Font dialog box every time, even when making minor changes such as underlining a word.
Overall, Portable Word seems like an unfinished application that needs a lot of work before turning into the text editor of choice. You can still use it if you want to work with multiple documents, but working with two or more WordPad windows can prove to be a lot easier.
